Automatic Update Epson Workforce Wireless Printers

Epson Workforce WF 4025 DW DN printers have been receiving wireless updates over the last day or so that seem to be stopping compatible cartridges from being recognised. One of our customers has overcome this problem.  By going into...
File
Print
Properties
Reset Defaults
Our customer still had the original cartridges and she put the black one into the machine first and it was of course recognised by the WF4025.  Then she put the compatible refillable ones back in after touching the two round copper pins on the chips (which may have also had a bearing on the result?).  The refillable cartridges were then recognised and the printer is now fully operational again.
If possible it may be a good idea to disable automatic Epson printer updates to prevent future problems?
